Private Charter Jet Luxury Winter Clothing and Accessories

As the days start getting darker and there’s a chill in the air that you can no longer ignore, it’s time to stock up on the season’s latest warm clothes and haute accessories. If you have to brave the bitter cold as you walk across the tarmac from your FBO to your private charter jet, it doesn’t hurt to look your best!

Sweaters

The sweater is a wardrobe essential. This year, lace, pop art, trompe l’oeil, frills and peplums help make knitwear into statement pieces for women this season. For men, it’s all about sophistication, simplicity and lush fabrics, like cashmere.

Women, layer a collared shirt with the new intarsia grey knit with an image of a fox from Aubin & Wills. For something warmer, the merino-wool offering from JW Anderson is an eye-popping chunky knit in black, red and cream. Miu Miu gives you a feminine sweater this season in the form of a sky-blue knit and jeweled collar. But for the evening, go with the finer black wool-blend knit with an embellished light peach collar. To wrap yourself in opulence, look to Valentino’s black wool-cashmere blend with a flattering peplum at the waistline.

Men, the new French cashmere company Exemplaire personifies this season’s fashion for men. Established by Jean-Victor Meyers (the grandson of L’Oréal’s Liliane Battencourt) and Louis Leboiteux, the line features comfortable garments that will remain fashionable through the years. The hand-sewn sweaters come in a handful of neutral earth tones, some with elbow patches or lambskin insets. Also available are rare fabrics, like the kind found on the hooded sweater made of cashmere and chinchilla.  Have your personal shopper place an order quickly—Exemplaire only crafts 30 to 50 pieces of each garment.  (http://www.exemplaire.com/en/)

Umbrella

An umbrella is merely a shield from water droplets until you possess a Burberry umbrella from the Prorsum collection. With a handle made of brass, the Italian-made “walking” umbrella features Italian craftsmanship and wooden or gold-plated handles made to look like the head of a duck, pheasant or hound. If animals aren’t your thing, opt for the sartorial walking umbrella with a hand-stitched studded handle.  (www.burberry.com)

Handmade Slippers

When your private charter jet is stocked during the fall and winter months, make sure to include a pair of bespoke My Slippers made of velvet, wool or linen, and soft leather soles. Available for men and women, you can choose from a square or round tongue, a selection of colors and trims, and an embroidered monogram or motif.  (http://www.myslippers.co.uk/)

Women’s Scarves

While everyone still loves Alexander McQueen, Vassilisa is the new popular kid on the block who only caters to the world’s most exclusive retailers. As the 2012 British Fashion Council ELLE Launch Pad Award Winner, celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Moss are gracing the glossy pages of magazines wearing the Italian-made, limited edition scarves made from natural silks, cashmere and modal. This season, the fashion industry is buzzing about the Foxes Masks & Tails Print, Snake Print and Mink & Tails Print scarves. (http://www.vassilisa.com/)

Men’s Shoe Boots

Guys can stylishly keep their feet dry with the ultimate, must-have accessory of the season—the shoe boot. From classic oxford styles to patent leather, the shoe boot is versatile enough to wear at the office or with a weekend outfit. The patent leather lace-up boots from Fratelli Rossetti, for example, look like patent leather dress shoes when paired with a suit. Trade the suit for a pair of jean to make the purple undertones tastefully pop.  The Silvano Sassetti textured Bordeaux-and black lace-up boots from Bergdorf Goodman are slightly textured for a snakeskin-like look, but have a marble-like smooth polish around the toes and ankles.  Forgo the laces all together with the sleek shoe boot from Yves Saint Laurent. The zipper on the side makes it simple to kick back and relax quickly.

Costa de Prata, or the Silver Coast, is the section of beaches between the Green and Lisbon coasts in Portugal, and includes the towns of Tomar, Alcobaça, Batalha, Nazaré, Óbidos, Aveiro, Fátima, Caldas da Rainha, Coimbra and Leiria. The turquoise waters and white sand on isolated beaches make this area one of Europe’s unspoiled gems getaways. After landing in your private charter jet, traverse through medieval towns, stroll through olive groves, visit nearby wineries and sunbathe on a deserted beach.

Where to Eat

  • Arcadas da Capella, Coimbra: Located in the Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas’ former stables, the Michelin-rated Arcadas de Capella Restaurante features regional cuisine created by executive chef Albano Lourenço. If you eat here during the day, ask for a seat in the dining room that overlooks the gardens. (http://www.quintadaslagrimas.pt/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=54&lang=en)

  • Pontuel, Leiria: A two-story eatery that features the cuisine of local chef Pedro Lopes, the Pontuel amazes you with the designer décor by architect Rita Lamb. Hire a private guide and visit the medieval town of Óbidos before seeing the Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria in Alcobaça, which was founded in 1152 and features the gothic tombs of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro. Make a pilgrimage to the Basilica and Capelinha das Aparições in Fátima, and then roam the halls of the royal castle in Leiria.

How to Use A Private Charter Jet to have an Endless Summer

Posted by Eric Wildt on Nov 5, 2012 9:41:00 AM

How to Have Your Own Endless Summer

You don’t need a surfboard to have year-round summertime fun when you have a private charter jet. If the cold weather is starting to give you the winter blues, or you simply need a sunny break, pack your passport and make your way to a luxury destination in a different hemisphere.

September to November

  • South Africa: Ditch your rain jacket for a t-shirt and head for the white sandy beaches of Cape Town, Port Elizabeth or Johannesburg. After bathing in the sun, head to the game reserves to get an up-close glimpse at larger-than-life animals.  Rest your head at the Saxon Boutique Hotel and Spa in Johannesburg or the Twelve Apostles Hotel in Cape Town.

  • Rangiroa, Tahiti: Teaming with the Society Islands, French Polynesia has the driest, least humid weather between the months of September and November. Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Archipelago is famous for its snorkeling and diving as the remote atoll has an abundance of marine life, is the home of the fabled Blue Lagoon and has some of the world’s best pearl farms. Spend the night in a luxury bungalow at the Hotel Kia Ora.

December to February

  • Puntarenas, Costa Rica: Hire a driver to get you around the laid-back Central American country where addresses don’t exist. To get a rain forest and beach adventure in one shot, make your way to the Parador Resort and Spa in the town of Manuel Antonio. When you’re here, you don’t have to go far to taste the world’s best coffee, spy endangered wildlife and catch some waves.

  • South Island, New Zealand: Commune with nature and sample fine vino in Queenstown and Christchurch, the adventure capitals of New Zealand. Enjoy activities that range from bungee jumping to wine tours. Alternatively, take a luxury cruise on the Milford Sound and visit the famous Canterbury Museum before you check in for the night at the five-star Matakauri Lodge.

March to May

  • Jakarta, Indonesia: Escape the spring showers and head to Jakarta, a true playground for a discerning private charter jet taveler. After unpacking your bags at the centrally located Ritz-Carlton, prepare to wow your senses at the Indonesia Permai Orchid Garden, which showcases hundreds of local species of orchids. When you’re ready to spend some serious cash, the Plaza Indonesia, Plaza Senayan and Grand Indonesia malls can give you a hand.

  • Colonia District, Singapore: A melting pot of Asian cultures, downtown Singapore’s Colonial District is embellished with cricket lawns and cathedrals. Experience nature at the Bukit Timah Reserve, escape the tourists at the Botanical Gardens and shop for exotic spices in the Arab district or Little India. If you’re a connoisseur of all things opulent, check into the Raffles Hotel, one of Singapore’s most luxurious and graceful landmarks.

June to August

  • Budapest, Hungary: With lovely a countryside and elegant cities, Budapest is known for its enchanting cultural sophistication, regal bridges and grand historic buildings. Originally two separate cities, Buda and Pest, you can visit the Royal Palace on Castle Hill, go on a river cruise along the Danube, see castle ruins of Visegrad or take the kids to the enchanting Budapest Puppet Theater. Continue your fairy tale excursion at the Four Season’s Gresham Palace at the foot of the Chain Bridge.

  • Olso, Norway: Known as the “Land of the Midnight Sun,” the sun never falls below the horizon between the months of May and July. As part of the Arctic Circle, the land of the Vikings is speckled with fairytale-like forests, charming fishing villages and flashes of the surreal Northern Lights. Oslo is where the legends of trolls, princesses and trolls were born, and has wide mix of modern architecture with medieval buildings. Visit City Hall, the home of the Nobel Peace Prize awards. Then make your way to one of the cultural museums to get a glimpse of Viking life. Round out your trip with a stay at the Grand Hotel Oslo’s Tower Suite.

When History and Private Charter Jet Luxury Travel Commingle

Posted by Eric Wildt on Oct 15, 2012 9:00:00 AM

Private Charter Jet Trips to Ashford Castle

Luxury has a language of its own that’s diverse. The idea of luxury is hard to define, but everyone has their own idea of what it means, making it something in which everyone can participate. And, when luxury is preserved, you have the exclusive opportunity to see history around the world by simply hopping onto your private charter jet.

Çırağan Palace—Istanbul, Turkey

One of the European “Capitals of Culture,” Istanbul is home to the Çırağan Palace (Sarayı) Kempinski Hotel in the Besiktas district, along the Bosporus shore. The current palace is the fourth built on the site. The first was built in the 17th century as a summer home, and the second and third were built according to the tastes of the sultans. The current palace was constructed during the 1860s by Sultan Abdülâziz, and serves as the last example of how Ottoman sultans constructed new palaces rather than inhabit those of their ancestors. The structure had Persian and baroque elements intertwined, colorful outer marble walls and a marble bridge that connects Çırağan Palace to nearby Yildiz Palacel. After a fire in 1910 gutted the palace’s wooden walls and roof, it served as a football stadium until the Kempinski group restored it to its former glory. Today, the historical Çırağan Palace is one of the world’s most expensive hotels.

Ashford Castle—Cong, County Mayo, Ireland

A medieval Victorian estate on the shore of Lough Corrib, Ashford Castle is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. It was built in 1228 by the Anglo-Norman House of Burke, formerly the de Burgo family, after the defeat of the Royal House of Connacht. On the estate is the notable Abbey of Cong where the last High King of Ireland, Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair, died. The king left the greatest relic of his Court, the Cross of Cong, which is said to be a piece of the True Cross. (The relic is now in the National Museum of Ireland.) Through the years, thousands of trees were added to the property, along with roads, gardens and two Victorian-style extensions. Ashford Castle was converted into a hotel in 1939, and was restored and expanded in 1970. Notable guests of the luxury hotel and historic site include Queen Mary with King George V, Oscar Wilde, U.S. President Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, Brad Pitt and HSH Prince Rainier III with HSH Princess Grace of Monaco.

Mdina, Malta

Amid the ancient temples and opulent yachts in the center of the Mediterranean is the city of Mdina in the well-kept secret archipelago of Malta. Just south of Sicily, Malta, one of the world’s smallest states, was ruled by the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Normans, French and the British (to name a few) before gaining independence from the U.K. in 1964. Malta’s Apostolic Sea is mentioned in the Bible’s Acts of the Apostles, and archeologists have found proof of stone-age settlements that existed as early as 5200 BC. Also unearthed in Malta are the remains of prehistoric pygmy elephants and dwarf hippos, megalithic temples and the famous fertility figure “Venus of Willendorf.” The Phoenicians and Romans during separate points in time inhabited the area of Mdina, the old capital of Malta. Mdina remains surrounded by its medieval walls and is home to the Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul. The palaces within the city serve as private homes. When visiting the Malta, the five-star Xara Palace Relais & Châteaux in Mdina is as exclusive as it gets with just 17 rooms and pieces of antique furniture and art.

What type of history do you seek to unearth on your private charter jet travels?

Take a Private Charter Jet to The Best Desserts of the World

Posted by Eric Wildt on Oct 2, 2012 1:02:00 PM

799px Macaron 2 resized 600

Everyone raves about wine and the main course, but behind every great meal is a scrumptious dessert. The next time you have a few days to spare, plan a scavenger hunt around the globe when you take a business jet charter to sample the tastiest morsels of decadence in the world.

Golden Opulence Sundae

Created by the New York City eatery Serendipity 3, the Golden Opulence Sundae is famous for its $1,000 price tag. Created to commemorate the restaurant’s golden anniversary in 2005, this dessert is in high demand by the elite around the world, including the crown prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum who recently enjoyed the dessert. The sundae includes five scoops of Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream that’s infused with Madagascar vanilla beans in a $300 Baccarat crystal goblet, which you receive in a velvet-lined box at the end of your meal. Accompanying the ice cream are chunks of chocolate made from Venezuela’s rare Chuao cacao. Drizzled over the ice cream is Amadei Porcelana chocolate that’s then covered with 23-carat edible gold leaf. Adorning the sundae are chocolate truffles, marzipan cherries, gold-covered almonds and candied fruit. In lieu of whipped cream, Serendipity 3 tops off the dessert with a gilded sugar flower that has a dollop of Grande Passion caviar on top. If you wish to partake in this frozen wonder, you’ll need to make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance.

Sultan’s Golden Cake

When you find yourself at the Çırağan Palace (Sarayı) Kempinski Hotel in Instanbul with a sweet tooth, stop into the Tuğra Restaurant & Lounge for a slice of the Sultan’s Golden Cake. There’s no better way to sink your teeth into a brick of gold. As one of the most luscious fruit cakes in the world, the Golden Cake is made of pears, figs, apricots and quince that were soaked in Jamaican Rum for two years. The cake is also infused with rare French Polynesian vanilla and topped with smooth caramel and black truffles. Serving as majestic icing is 24-carat gold leaf. The cake takes up to 72 hours to make and is served in a golden-sealed cake box made of sterling silver. It’s good to live like the royalty of the Ottoman Empire.

Macaroons Haute Couture

When you’ve landed your private charter jet in Paris, you can’t have just any macaroons. You must sample the Haute Couture Macaroons created by pastry chef Pierre Hermé. The airy bites of bliss are made from fine and rare ingredients like fleur de sel, peanut butter, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, lemon cream, Gran Format Infinment caramel, Ceylon cinnamon, Morello cherries, pistachio, cacao from Madagascar,  espelette pepper, green tea,  chanterelle mushroom, aniseed, basil, saffron, caramelized fennel, carrot, passion fruit, Infiniment Chocolat Porcelana and more. With the right combination of ingredients, you can create a custom macaroon that costs over $7,000. If this is the price to pay for heaven, so be it.

The Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence

As you make your way around the world, plan a stop in Galle, Sri Lanka and find your way to The Fortress Resort & Spa. The Stilt Fisherman Indulgence offered by the resort commemorates the time-honored local tradition of stilt fishing by portraying a stilt fisherman carved out of chocolate. The layered dessert is an Italian cassata served with Irish cream, gold leaf and a mango and pomegranate compote. Balancing perfectly on the chocolate stilt is a piece of 80-carat aquamarine cut into the shape of a boat that you get to keep. If you order this Indulgence, be prepared to spend over $14,000.

Considering your traveling adventures across the country or the world in your private aircraft, what was your favorite extravagant treat?

TAP 1 1500x1500Headphones are a must-have audio accessory, especially when you want to comfortably enjoy music on your jet aircraft charter. The latest in headphone technologies give you sweet-sounding options that even the most sensitive ears will enjoy. Ranging from over-ear models to earbuds, the best premium headphones offer versatility and comfort.

Silverado from California Headphones

Inspired by the aviation headsets worn during World War II, the retro-style Silverado headphones are designed to help you get the most out of California’s Bakersfield country sound, OC surf- rock and San Francisco’s alternative music scenes. This pair of headphones covers your ears completely and is made from die-cast metal and leather. With a frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz and 40mm titanium drivers, Silverado is designed to specifically pick up on vocals, guitars and other acoustics for a sound that’s akin to a live concert. The 280-degree articulating hinges and contrast-stitched headbands provide supreme comfort over your head and ears. The Silverado’s collapsible tri-fold design makes them ideal for travel on your private plane, and the duo-jack allows a friend to plug-in.

STRIVA TAP from Koss

As the world’s first true in-ear Wi-Fi headphone, the STRIVA TAP earbuds are perfect for those who hate messing with cords. The STRIVA TAP’s built-in receivers allow you to listen to music in three different ways: 1) Listen to streaming music straight from an Internet station wherever there’s a Wi-Fi connection (simply tap on an earbud to change the Internet station), 2) Plug the CAP wireless transmitter into your music player to transmit music directly to the earbuds and 3) Use the STRIVA TAP like traditional earbuds by plugging them into your music player with the included audio cable. CXC 700 Earbuds from Sennheiser

Rated as one of Travel + Leisure’s “Best New Travel Gadgets” in 2011, the CXC 700 are the world’s first noise-cancelling earbuds. Unlike noise-cancelling headphones that can take up a lot of space, a pair of CXC 700 is as small as traditional earbuds. The earbuds feature digital Active Noise cancellation, which reduces unwanted ambient noise. The three noise cancellation modes are based on different acoustic environments. Choose Mode 1 for trains, busses and cars; Mode 2 for flights on your private charter jet or Mode 3 for loud surroundings and crowded environments. The CXC 700 earbuds are optimized for portable media players and in-flight entertainment systems.

Private Jet Trips to the Best Raw Bars in the U.S.

Posted by Eric Wildt on Sep 14, 2012 8:36:00 AM

Screen Shot 2012 09 14 at 8.54.34 AM

If you like sushi, then you may find yourself loving raw bars. A trend that’s quickly gaining popularity across the U.S. with private jet travelers, particularly along the coastal regions, a raw bar is generally a small restaurant or a selection of menu items with raw fish and shellfish. The shellfish are shucked in-house and served immediately, and some raw bars keep a variety of live shellfish so there is no question about the freshness of the delights on your plate. Popular menu items in raw bars include clams, oysters, mussels, prawns, crab, fish and even red meat. Before you hop onto your charter jet to find a new favorite eatery, we’ve helped make the search easier with a list of some of the best raw bars in the country.

DUO Steak and Seafood

MAUI, HAWAII—Set on Wailea Beach in the Maui Four Seasons, the in-resort DUO Steak and Seafood restaurant offers private dining options with views of the waterfall pool and ocean. With an impressive spread for the morning buffet, the steak and seafood treats appear in the evening. The restaurant’s award-winning chefs offer a diversity of seafood and steak options that include an assortment of sushi and sashimi, steamed clams and chorizo in a saffron, monchong, local island snapper, mahi mahi, seared ahi, elk steak and cuts of all-natural beef.

Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar

SEATTLE and BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON—Chef John Howie presents diners with fresh menu items that are seasonal, sustainable, innovative, local, and memorable. Park your private jet at Boeing Airfield and enjoy classic local seafood favorites like Hazelnut Grilled Trout or Wild Northwest King Salmon. The raw bar menu includes ahi poke, giant black tiger prawns, oysters, ceviche, seafood salad with calamari and a variety of sashimi.

Hyde Street Seafood House & Raw Bar

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA—With an established fan base at their location between San Francisco’s Nob Hill and Russian Hill, the Hyde Street Seafood House & Raw Bar has a tavern-like nautical feel with benches made of wooden planks, lanterns and maps covering the walls. Offering Pacific Coast favorites like King salmon, mussels and scallops, the four-star restaurant also features neck clams and oysters on the half shell, a raw bar sampler with smoked salmon, as well as Dungeness crab.

SUGARCANE Raw Bar and Grill

MIAMI, FLORIDA—With a style reminiscent of South American’s colonial Spanish style, you’ll find SUGARCANE in midtown in an enormous 4,200-square-foot establishment with an 850-square-foot terrace. Receiving accolades from the experts in the restaurant, food, travel and media industries, the restaurant’s raw bar menu offers seasonal oysters, shellfish “towers,” middle-neck clams, shrimp cocktail and lobster. The selection of crudos (raw food) includes seasoned tuna, ceviche, snapper, scallop, the local catch, beef tenderloin and steak tartare.

GrillMarX Steakhouse and Raw Bar

OLNEY, MARYLAND—With an atmosphere of casual, upscale dining, the GrillMarX Steakhouse is a four-star restaurant with an open kitchen, open ceiling and warm organic décor. Offering all the favorites you love from a steakhouse, the raw menu items are seasonal selections like blue points, littleneck clams, and shrimp cocktail.

East Coast Grill & Raw Bar

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS—This popular neighborhood eatery offers a hometown feel without the sacrifice of fine, quality foods. In addition to finding the raw bar offerings during dinner, you can also enjoy them during the Saturday lunch or Sunday brunch. While you’re at the East Cost Grill & Raw Bar, sample the Asian oysters, Island Creek oysters and littleneck clams on the half shell, local crab claws and the wild shrimp cocktail. Since you made the trip to Massachusetts in your private jet, don’t forget to order a bowl of clam chowder, too!

Raw bars offer a culinary adventure for your palate. What’s the most daring or exotic food you’ve tried?

Private Charter Jet For Corporate Angel Network

Private Charter Jet Flights for CAN Patients

By Rosanna Rutherford - Director, Client Services

Solairus Aviation recently helped coordinate a free charter jet trip for an eight year old boy, Cole, who lives in Indianapolis  and was obtaining special cancer treatment in New York. Thanks to the Solairus team, and one of our aircraft owner’s philanthropic vision and support, we were able to make this a memorable charter jet experience for Cole and his parents. Solairus was able to get involved due to the company’s continued efforts to give back to our community by partnering with companies such as Corporate Angel Network (CAN).

CAN works with patients, physicians, corporate flight departments, charter jet operators, and leading treatment centers to arrange more than 3,000 charter jet flights a year. Since 1981, this New York based nonprofit is the only charitable organization in the US whose sole mission is to help cancer patients access the best possible treatment for their specific type of cancer by arranging free domestic travel to treatment centers by matching their trip legs with empty seats on corporate charter jets. This improves the patients’ chances of survival and reduces their emotional stress, physical discomfort, and financial burden.

Due to recent internal automation improvements Solairus is now able to match patients’ needs and Solairus’ empty legs more efficiently; therefore we anticipate an increase in future CAN trips utilizing our charter jet fleet. We hope to be able to assist this cause whenever we encounter these “moments of truth” opportunities to match our charter jet flights to cancer patient needs across the country. Working together, Solairus and the Corporate Angel Network can make a difference that will last a lifetime.
